Summary:
The Cage Processing Area Lead is responsible for the oversight of cage washing facilities and direct oversight of cage wash technicians at NCTRComprehension of and adherence to standard operating procedures is mandatoryQualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
o High School diploma or GED.
o Some knowledge of disinfectant use and operating knowledge of autoclaves, cage washers, conveyer belts, bedding dispensers, bottle fillers and high pressure and steam cleaning devices is preferred.
o Must possess the physical strength, dexterity and endurance to lift, pull, push and handle cages, racks, large pieces of miscellaneous equipment, feed and bedding bags and other materials and equipment normally found in a research facility.
o Can understand and follow directions as well as follow through on instructions.
o Have the ability to work as a team and function productively with others to accomplish tasks.
o Must be able to handle/manage conflicts or differences with co-workers in a professional manner.
o Possess good interpersonal skills.
o Good knowledge of both spoken and written English.
o Must be a legal resident of the United States
Essential Functions:
o Ensures all feed and water containers, animal housing equipment, etcare cleaned and disinfected in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
o Process clean caging and accessory equipment appropriately, including putting bedding into cages and autoclaving cages and supplies.
o Assist in sanitation and decontamination in all areas of the facility.
o Prepare and submit required cage wash records, charts, logs, and inventories as requested.
o Perform routine cleaning, descaling and preventative maintenance on cage washers and autoclaves, including checking and cleaning filters and spray manifolds.
o Maintain and perform routine repairs on caging and racks.
o Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff.
o Properly mix and handle solutions used for a variety of purposes, but primarily for cleaning and sanitation.
o Perform other related duties as assignedPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Occasionally Climbing, Kneelingo Often Stooping, Squatting, Crouching, Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Talking, Hearing, Seeingo Lifting/Moving Requirements:
Minimum of 50 poundsENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
o Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather.
o Indoors work will be performed in a laboratory environment and/or in an animal care, barrier facility, surgical or test procedure facility, diet/water prep facility, or animal housing/bedding cleaning and prep areas.
o Work may require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in both areas.
o Work area may be prone to hot and humid conditions, and subject to objectionable odors, aerosols, dust, animal dander, and noise.
