Interdisciplinary Scientist

The position of Interdisciplinary Scientist falls under the 0401/1301/1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-9, you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the education requirements for either the Biologist, Physical Scientist, or Chemist as outlined below. For the Biologist, 0401 series, you must have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- A combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in the disciplines above plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the Physical Scientist, 1301 series, you must have a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR- A combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the Chemist, 1320 series, you must have a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. -OR- A combination of education and experience that includes course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting either of the Basic Requirement stated above, applicants must also meet the following:
Minimum Qualifications Specialized Experience. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service that includes
Experience:
conducting laboratory research in the areas of biology, chemistry and/or physical science; providing scientific analysis; reviewing and evaluating scientific information to determine validity and draw conclusions; and preparing, presenting, and/or defending scientific findings in writing and orally. -OR- Two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. -OR- Combination of experience and education as described above.
