Computer Scientist
The position of Computer Scientist falls under the 1550 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-11/12, you must meet the Basic Requirement AND Minimum Qualifications as follows:
Basic Requirement:
Have a bachelor's degree in computer science or a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and at least 15 of the 30 semester hours included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) In addition to the Basic Requirement as stated above, applicants must also meet the following Minimum Qualifications as follows:
GS 11 Grade Level:
A. Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS 9 or equivalent band level of responsibility in the federal service working with senior staff designing, developing scientific software applications and/or hardware systems. Experience testing algorithms and/or computer programs; experience providing technical guidance and/or advice for scientific computing in areas such as mobile application development and database design. OR B. Have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Computer Science. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) OR C. Have a combination of education in computer science and experience. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) GS 12 Grade Level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS 11 or equivalent band level of responsibility in the federal service designing, developing scientific software applications and/or hardware systems. Experience implementing algorithms, computer programs, and/or interpreting data. Experience providing technical guidance and/or advice related to scientific application software, computational science and/or bioinformatics. NOTE:
